We endeavour to keep you up to date with the latest research, clinical trials, legal status in Australia and retreat dates and connect you with providers in your area where possible.
Tabernanthe Iboga is a medium sized shrub, native to the jungle of Gabon and surrounding countries, on the mid west coast of Africa. It contains extremely complex alkaloids that have proven to have multiple and substantial healing attributes.
Iboga is somewhat of a miracle plant and on first look, many people write it off as a "too good to be true" substance. I was initially one of them. After many years of research, doctors reports. case studies and testimonials. In the process, I noted I that anyone who set out to prove this plant cannot do what it claims to, ultimately proved its efficacy, across multiple health genres.
Traditionally, Iboga has been used by the Bwiti and Pygmie tribes of the regions it grows in, to heal almost every feasible complaint, from infertility to intestinal worms, malaria to the flu. Iboga is proven to have miraculous healing benefits in our modern world, for issues such as trauma, depression, mental health issues, Parkinson's disease, drug addiction and many more. The available research, does not even scratch the surface of what the Bwiti have known for thousands of years.
This plant root, is proven to heal physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, sometimes in as little as one treatment.
Iboga is also used in a ceremonial context, inducing a trance state, in which the Bwiti come together for as many as twenty four hours straight, to0 sing, dance, build community and celebrate the gift of life. The culture is a fascinating and beautiful as the plant medicine and I have made it my life long goal, to share news of the teachings and systems for doing "life" that this ancient culture has so effortlessly perfected.
Iboga has many exclusion criteria that most other plant medicines do not have. It can be dangerous in the wrong hands and it is imperative that you do your research and find a well trained, legitimate provider. Find out where they trained and who with. Testimonials can be tricky as not everyone wants to share their experience, but certainly, get them if you can.
It is imperative that you go through the medical screening process and are cleared by your doctor. Just think, if you have had a heart attack, would you run a marathon. absolutely not. If you have had a heart attack, guess what, you cannot do Iboga either. Rules apply. Yes, there have been deaths and that is why we have these protocol. You must have healthy liver and kidneys, healthy blood, minerals and vitamins and a healthy heart. You under no circumstance, can mix recreational drugs with Iboga. Even substance such as caffeine can be dangerous mixed with Iboga. Your provider will know all the things to look for and contraindications in medications, to keep you safe and advise against this treatment if necessary.
Providing all the factors are well considered and you are healthy, Iboga, in a controlled setting with experienced, well trained professionals, it is perfectly safe.
Please follow this link to to Global Iboga Therapy Alliance and note that all retreats and or providers recommended by Iboga Australia, strictly adhere to these guidelines. If you are refused treatment, it is not personal, it is about keeping you and everyone else safe.

It is important to read and understand your Iboga therapy bill of rights. This will help you understand the questions you need to be asking and what protections are in place for you. Your provider must also operate strictly within your bill of rights, to avoid any mis communication or misunderstanding.

The short version is that Iboga works for most people in some way. There are a percentage of people who do not respond to the medicine and it is unclear as to why. It is most likely down to individual genetic makeup, Brain chemistry and functioning, lack of willingness to adhere to the guidelines and commit to the process, Not feeling safe, being overdosed by an inexperienced provider and causing fear or further trauma, on top of what you are already struggling with. Again, these are all good reasons to know who you are dealing with.
At the end of the day, Iboga/ibogaine, is an incredibly intuitive spirit. It will most likely do something for you, even if you don't recognise it at the time. The final factor as to whether it sticks or not, is integration. Iboga/Ibogaine and any other psychoactive medicines, does not do the job for you, nor does it take away your free will. The final decisions as to your choice, to apply what you have learnt in your sessions, is unto you. If you choose not to continue doing the work, to go back to the same habits, mix with the same people, deny yourself appropriate boundaries with others etc, it most probably, will not cause long standing change. The insights you receive are often powerful and confronting, difficult to ignore or impossible not to change you for the better in some way. But the responsibility to make good choices after treatment, is all yours.
The results vary , so there is no guarantees, however, as already mentioned, if you are committed to listening to your provider, following instruction, guidance and known strategies to maximise your outcome, I have no doubt your experience will be valid.
Iboga root bark contains twelve different psychoactive alkaloids. They all do slightly different things and work together to create an enhanced, full healing experience.
Ibogaine is just one of the active alkaloids the root possess's.
In effect, from my own personal experience, you need a higher dose of Ibogaine, which is done in a clinical setting with a drip and ECG monitor, for safety reasons. A doctor will come and check your vitals every hour and your capacity to move, nausea and recovery time are vastly effected.
The root bark is used in a more low and slow manner. It accumulates in your system, building tolerance and leading to a (usually) profound experience, by the last dose. Working with the root in this way, allows us to gauge individual tolerance levels and work independently, harmoniously and with integrity for the Bwiti teachings, the music and to guide you through you experience in a profound and beautiful way. I find in effect, you get a more profound experience, with less of the ugly side effects.
Unfortunately, the medical systems in the western world, will lean more towards the use of ibogaine, because it is an exact science that can be measured and weighed against a persons sex and body weight.
The raw plant root, gave me a far greater experience, with little to know side effects, however, the actual contents or percentage of alkaloid contained in the root, varies, depending on several factors from, age of the plant, a 100 year old plant contains far more active ingredients than a ten year old plant.
INo. The Iboga experience is entirely different to every other plant medicine. It does not behave in any of the same ways as psychedelics as we have come to know them. There are not overwhelming bright colours and patterns that one might expect to experience on ayahuasca or mushrooms.
The Iboga experience is like having a waking dream, that is extremely clear and relevant to the experiences past present and future. You are likely, if you do receive visions, to recognise who you are looking at, where you are and what is happening. They are like memories in many instances, that you can see.
If you imagine that Ayahuasca or Mushrooms takes you out of your body, to meet other spirits, entities or aliens, Iboga is extremely solitary. This is about you and you alone. You are likely to meet your own soul and may be reprimanded or negotiated with in a way, that asks you to take better care of yourself. You witness memories that have been out of your conscious awareness or even see your own birth. In the process, you may need to ask your own soul for forgiveness, make promises and commitments to yourself on account of your soul asking you to do so or you might discuss a grievance with a deceased loved one I order to resolve it.
It can feel quite real to many people and you may also experience the phenomenon of a "forward flash". giving you insight into your future and where you are heading if you make changes ir not.....Scrooge style if you may.
The ingestion of Iboga itself feels very nice. It makes you feel warm and happy. It has an anaesthetic like effect on your emotions, which allows you to look at and deal with any issues you may have In a way, you can view your life as a spectator and see what really happened to you. Painful memories can be viewed in much the same way as you might watch a movie, which gives you opportunity to evaluate the truth the truth and adjust your self narrative accordingly. Our lives are often very different to the narrative we create around them.
In cases where deep physical healing is needed, There may be no visionary component, but you might feel the medicine under your skin, healing your nervous system or brain for example.
The Iboga experience is broken into two phases. The active phase and the processing phase. Your journey is not over until the processing phase is complete and you have achieved sleep, 24 hours later. It is in this phase that you can feel quite vulnerable. The effects of the medicine are wearing off and you begin to make sense of what you can remember. sometimes, especially where painful memories or acknowledgement of where you may have been blaming someone else for certain things, and you realise it is you that needs to take accountability for a situation, these realisations can be extremely confronting. If this is the case for you, know that this is what your providers are trained for. They are there for you and you must reach out for council in that moment. After you sleep, the following day, you will feel amazing.
